Le Petit Four Pâtisserie

Le Petit Four Pâtisserie – a little French bakery with a beautiful blue-green shopfront that blends perfectly amongst the Straits heritage shophouses in Georgetown. You may have driven by this quaint bakery a few times on Beach Street and not notice it because a long line of people blocked your view. The founder of the bakery is Hooi Shing, a patisserie chef whom graduated from Le Cordon Bleu, Paris.

You have to be early if you don’t want to miss out on the fresh baked croissants, cinnamon rolls and gateau! When we arrived about two hours after opening, there was a long waiting line outside as all the seats inside were fully occupied.

However, the wait wasn’t too long as were ushered to our seats upstairs around 15 minutes in line.

As soon as you step foot into the bakery, a delicious aroma fills the air and you are greeted by their friendly staffs waiting to take your order. Everything at the counter looked good to be honest, so we had a bit of almost everything.

On our way to our seats upstairs, you can catch a glimpse of the chef in the kitchen hand rolling the croissants!

We ordered the Classic Opera Cake, Lemon Basil Tart, Raspberry Tart, Vanilla Eclair with Caramelised Pecans, Enchante – Rose Cheesecake with Raspberry Jelly & Lychee, Sausage Croissant and a side coffee and tea.

Our first bite was the Sausage Croissant. The croissant was crispy, crackling, and flaky with a buttery flavour wrapped around a chicken sausage – quite a perfect start before we indulged in sweets. Then we had their Vanilla Eclair, a signature of the bakery since their opening. The caramelised pecans paired with the sweet vanilla cream was surprisingly light and airy. Honestly, one wasn’t enough!

After that we indulged in the tarts – Lemon Basil Tart and Raspberry Tart. Both tarts were really pretty to look at and the Raspberry Tart was sweet and sour. We absolutely loved the taste of how the sweet shortcrust pastry base blended with the sour raspberries. Their Lemon Basil Tart is a twist on the classic tart au citron. The flavour of the basil complemented the lemon meringue so well and was so refreshing – so definitely a must-try!

Lastly, we moved to to the cakes – Classic Opera Cake and Enchanté. If you’re a coffee and chocolate lover, then the Opera Cake is just for you. It is a classic French cake made with layers of almond sponge soaked with coffee syrup, layers of ganache and French coffee buttercream. Also, it’s really an indulgence together with a hot cup of café latte. Bringing our tastebuds journey to a close was the Enchanté, a very light Rose flavoured cheesecake with raspberry jelly and fruity lychees. It was very light and great a palate cleanser after tasting the rich Opera Cake.

Overall, the ambience and the taste raised the bar of expectations for us. Even as we wrote this, we reminisce the flavours and imagine ourselves sitting in the bakery with a nice book sipping on tea, enjoying the croissant. Time to go back for more!
